Now, there is a female landscaper in Sydney, Australia, has set social media on fire after calling out what she sees as a major double standard in the workplace \u2014 why can men work shirtless in the heat, but women can\u2019t?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201dIt\u2019s a f\u2014ing 40-degree day today..\u201d<\/h2>\n

We all know how tough it can be to work outside when the sun is blazing and the heat is relentless. If you\u2019ve ever had to power through a scorching day on the road or at a construction site, you know exactly what I\u2019m talking about.<\/p>\n

When I was growing up, it wasn\u2019t unusual to see road workers or construction workers shirtless on hot days. It might not be as common today, but I still occasionally see men working with sunburned shoulders and nothing on top.<\/p>\n

Shianne Fox, an\u00a0Australian<\/a>\u00a0tradeswoman who goes by the name \u201cThe Bikini Tradie\u201d on social media, took to TikTok to vent her frustration after being told she couldn\u2019t remove her shirt while working outside on a scorching 104\u00b0F (40\u00b0C) day.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201dIt\u2019s a f\u2014ing 40-degree day today and I\u2019m the one who has to wear my shirt, while all the boys on-site don\u2019t have to wear theirs,\u201d she ranted and continued:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a double standard, it\u2019s sexist, and I\u2019m actually really over it. I just want to be topless like the boys\u2014but no, I will \u2018distract them\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fox, who often works in a bikini top due to the intense heat, said she was simply asking for equal treatment, just like her male \u201dtradies\u201d (\u201dtradie\u201d is Australian slang for a tradesperson, referring to skilled workers in fields like carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work)<\/p>\n

A battle over gender equality or a step too far?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Fox, who has worked in male-dominated trades for over four years and typically wears a bikini while she\u2019s completing tasks, said she\u2019s comfortable in her own skin and believes there\u2019s nothing inappropriate about her request.<\/p>\n

Foxx argued that working topless shouldn\u2019t be considered \u201cdistracting\u201d since it\u2019s a \u201cnatural thing.\u201d However, critics pointed out that societal norms and workplace standards exist for a reason, and professionalism should take precedence over personal comfort.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was such a hot day. Obviously, when you work in the industry, lots of the boys have their tops off. I thought it was only fair if I could get mine off, too. I have no shame in getting my b\u2013bs out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think it should be \u2018distracting\u2019 because at the end of the day they\u2019re just a natural thing. At the end of the day, we all have breasts. It\u2019s just a natural thing. If you\u2019re going to be childish and feel like they\u2019re going to be distracting, then you should just grow up,\u201d she told\u00a0News.au.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fox, who also shares content on an adult website, says she knows her stance is controversial but believes speaking out might encourage more women to join the trades.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought if I put myself out there, maybe other women will want to join the industry,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Backlash from other women<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Not all female tradies are standing with her. Many women in the industry feel that her social media presence \u2014 including videos of her working in a bikini top \u2014 is hurting their credibility.<\/p>\n

One female tradeswoman commented:<\/p>\n

\u201cShe does not speak for us female tradies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another added:<\/p>\n

\u201cShe makes real female tradies look bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fox\u2019s video received thousands of comments, with many men agreeing with her stance.<\/p>\n

\u201cYep, totally agree\u2014spread the t-ts and f\u2014k the boys,\u201d one man wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think anyone would complain, miss,\u201d another added.<\/p>\n

But others weren\u2019t convinced:<\/p>\n

\u201cSurely there\u2019s an aircon in the kitchen,\u201d one critic quipped.<\/p>\n

The bigger picture<\/strong><\/h3>\n

While Fox\u2019s debate rages on, the reality is that women remain vastly underrepresented in blue-collar jobs.<\/p>\n

A 2023\u00a0Deloitte<\/a>\u00a0survey revealed a staggering 12:1 ratio of men to women in trade work. With such a huge gender gap, Fox\u2019s viral moment raises an important question: Should women be fighting for topless equality, or is the real battle about breaking into male-dominated industries in the first place?<\/p>\n

Despite the gender imbalance in her field, Ms. Foxx said she enjoys working in male-dominated industries.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people say you get catcalled, but it\u2019s nothing like that at all,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom my experience, if you just go in there with your head held high and if you don\u2019t let men have it over you.<\/p>\n
